personality test : neurotic introvert
It kind of hurts how true this is. 91% on the neurotic scale *facepalm*

My Personality
Neuroticism
91
Extraversion
1
Openness to Experience
14
Agreeableness
58
Conscientiousness
66
You rarely get angry and it takes a lot to make you angry, however you are sensitive about what others think of you. Your concern about rejection and ridicule cause you to feel shy and uncomfortable around others. You are easily embarrassed and often feel ashamed. Your fears that others will criticize or make fun of you are exaggerated and unrealistic, but your awkwardness and discomfort may make these fears a self-fulfilling prophecy. You tend to feel overwhelmed by, and therefore actively avoid, large crowds. You often need privacy and time for yourself. You prefer familiar routines and for things to stay the same. You can tend to feel uncomfortable with change. You dislike confrontations and are perfectly willing to compromise or to deny your own needs in order to get along with others, however you believe that a certain amount of deception in social relationships is necessary. You are guarded in new relationships and less willing to openly reveal the whole truth about yourself. You are well-organized and like to live according to routines and schedules. Often you will keep lists and make plans.

what I use winter break for
Winter break is for catching up on TV on DVD!

New loves:

1. Band of Brothers -

Fabulous docudrama about a company of paratroopers in World War II. All the actors were great and the friendship between Winters and Nix just killed me.

Favorite character: Winters (Damian Lewis)

Have a picture ) of Damian Lewis and his wife who casting spoilers )

2. Doctor Who -

One word: Fantastic! Christopher Eccleston, you rock. The special effects were a bit over the top, but hilarious. And the human(alien) drama was very well done. I adore the TARDIS and the sonic screwdriver. They're like supporting characters.

Favorite character: The Doctor (Christopher Eccleston) Surprisingly, I also really like Rose.

spoilers for The Parting of the Ways )

Hope everyone had a fantastic Christmas!

keep flyin'
I miss Firefly. It makes me happy to occasionally still find random bits about it.

Article by Nathan Fillion on being Mal
I'm particularly fond of the note from his mother at the end:
Nathan Fillion has permission to participate in your book, and is allowed to go on any field trips that may be included with promoting it. We are so happy that his university education was not for naught. He has had so much fun with that show and we can’t believe how it just keeps popping up again and again! Let us know if there is anything else you need, and please make sure Nathan eats the apple we put in his lunch and don’t let him lose his mittens.

in a crowded room where the glasses clink
Yesterday was like the best day ever!

First [info]black_eyedgirl posted this lovely West Wing Sam fic for me.

Then I pretty much watched my Heroes DVDs all afternoon and noticed tons of awesome stuff I missed on the first go-round since I had to watch the entire thing online in a tiny viewing box. I'm going to write a gigantic post of Heroes love sometime this week.

My token bit of Heroes love for the moment is that I finally got my custom Peter Petrelli mood theme to work! Credit for the gorgeous mood theme goes to [info]ginger_noodle and extra credit to [info]crackified for the help post that showed me - technologically impaired person that I am - how to load everything up.

And the most awesome thing was that I went to my first concert last night and it was Amazing! cut for long ramble on amazingness )

beta?
So I finally broke down and shelled out the money for Sports Night. I got it a week ago and I've just finished it. When I have more time I'll be writing a detailed post about how incredibly awesome it is.

Is there anyone on my f-list who would be willing to beta an admittedly horrendous West Wing fic? It's my Leo fic for [info]tww_minis and I've made peace with the fact that, barring a miracle, it's not going to get posted by the deadline of tomorrow night, but I do desperately need someone to look at it and tell me if I should just scrap the whole thing.

School is kicking my ass. Off to read some Microbiology.

to Davy Jones' locker
My fish died today :( I'd only had him for two weeks. I never have good luck with fish. And I was so excited to take him back to my dorm room at the end of summer. He was a black goldfish and I'd named him Voldemort and decked out his tank with red gravel and a fake plant and a sunken pirate ship wheel. *is sad*

And to add insult to injury, we had fish for dinner tonight.

In other news, my newest obession is Regulus Black and all fic relating to him. I really need to stop writing random bits of Regulus fic and get to work finishing my West Wing Leo fic for [info]tww_minis.

Also, I'm on season 3 of Six Feet Under which is a great show and since Peter Krause is so awesome in it I'm even more convinced that I should just buy the whole series of Sports Night even though I've never seen a single episode.

meme
In response to [info]andrealyn's meme:

1. What is your favourite book?
I have so many, but I'm going to have to say my absolute favorite is My Name is Asher Lev by Chaim Potok. It's stark and poetic and angsty. One of those growing-up-in-a-strict-society-without-fitting-in books. I love that so much of it revolves around art and Judiasm, both topics I know next to nothing about, and yet I don't feel weighed down by that at all when reading it. I can't really even describe it.

2. Who is your favourite author?
Desipte being on a major Margaret Atwood kick at the moment, I'm going to pick Chaim Potok. I love him for My Name is Asher Lev, but I also adored The Chosen and everything else of his I've read.

3. If you could just have ideas pour out of your head and be an insta-recced fic, what fandom would it be in?
House.

4. What's your ideal morning?
My ideal morning is not really having a morning. Sleeping in.

5. Wine or chocolate milk? No, really.
Chocolate milk. Really.

So now that you know some more about me, anyone else want to do this meme?

1. Leave me a comment saying anything random, like your favourite lyric to your current favourite song. Or your favourite kind of sandwich. Something random. Whatever you like.
2. I respond by asking you five questions so I can get to know you better.
3. You WILL update your LJ with the answers to the questions.
4. You will include this explanation and offer to ask someone else in the post.
5. When others comment asking to be asked, you will ask them five questions.

---

And I have yet another new show. Six Feet Under. Love the dark humor. And the series is already over so it's not really like I've gotten into yet another new show...right? *rationalizes*

meme! and yet another new obsession: Heroes!!

Quick meme:
1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the next 4-7 sentences on your LJ along with these instructions.
5. Don't you dare dig for that "cool" or "intellectual" book in your closet! I know you were thinking about it! Just pick up whatever is closest (unless it's too troublesome to reach and is really heavy. Then go back to step 1).
6. Tag five people.

I say nothing. Cordelia gets down off her windowsill and slides up onto mine, sitting close beside me. "We're enjoying it extremely, thank you very much," she says in her voice for adults. My parents think she has beautiful manners. She puts an arm around me, gives me a little squeeze, a squeeze of complicity, of instruction. Everything will be all right as long as I sit still, say nothing, reveal nothing. I will be saved then, I will be acceptable once more. I smile, tremulous with relief, with gratitude.
- Cat's Eye by Margaret Atwood

I'm sort of in a Margaret Atwood phase at the moment. I loved The Handmaiden's Tale and The Blind Assassin and I just got through with Oryx and Crake. I need to actually find time to read this one. It's probably due back at the library soon.

---

Yet another new show for me. Heroes!! Love it! Nathan and Peter are such good brothers. Like, Sam-and-Dean good brothers. The show does conflict with 24 though. That could be a problem.

Save the cheerleader. Save the world.

well that makes you...chartman!
Went to see Pirates again. Third time. I think I love it even more every time I see it.

So in the breakroom at my work there is a magazine that is almost exclusively about Pirates! It has interviews and pirate facts and gorgeous, gorgeous pictures. And there was a short article about Pirates fanfiction! Of course there was no mention made of slash ;) but I stole the page that gave some reccs. I'm going to list them here in case anyone else cares:

reccs )

Wow, that was rather a lot. I haven't really had the chance to read these yet so I can't vouch for them, but I do remember The African Star and it was a good one. Anyone want to give me some reccs? Anything good out yet that is post-AWE?

Saw Ocean's 13 yesterday. Some things about it annoyed me but overall I liked it. The first scene was my favorite. And now I need some O11 fic too.

Other odds and ends from my life:

1. I am the worst driver ever.

2. CAVS!! Not that I've ever really cared about sports before -especially basketball- but for the love of God, win Cavs win!! Edit: Crap! 83-82. One point!!!!

3. I love my dad.

[on the subject of an owl seen in our front yard last week]
Me: It was not a killer owl! It was a baby!
Dad: It was eating a pigeon! Just because it weighs 4 lb. 4 oz. doesn't mean it isn't an evil shredding machine!

This is why we have Father's Day. To commemorate the wisdom passed down to us from our Dads.
